Willie Andrews MUST BE CUT.

This shit is infuriating.

I don’t know why there is a culture in place in professional sports that makes it seem OK to beat one’s wife.

Deadspin ran an article about it a couple weeks back which was refreshingly free of dick jokes.

There are certain things that I am willing to overlook. I don’t think its the end of the World when athletes get caught with weed, for example. I also am willing to ignore when people like Manny Ramirez and/or Shawn Chaconhave fits of rage and throw their employers to the ground…to a degree…barring that they cut the roids or seek anger management.

DUIs and DWIs seem to be a gray area in the media. Because I never feel right ripping guys for them because if no one ended up getting hurt its like “oh, shitty…but no big deal” whereas when someone pulls a Marshawn Lynch it’s like “What a terrible human being!” I know that it’s never a good idea to drink and drive but I sort of feel like the leagues should REQUIRE all contracted players to be chauffeured EVERYWHERE and/or pay for it just to avoid the terrible PR.

But one thing I never ever condone is spousal abuse/domestic violence.

Some people might be thinking “Well, you didn’t rip Randy moss last year during his whole mysterious ‘woman presses charges’ thing”. That’s true. i didn’t rip him. I hoped like hell that it wasn’t anything substantial. That he didn’t actually injure anyone. That he didn’t intend to injure anyone. And that, at its worst, it was a case of him and some friends smoking weed, some accident happened, some misunderstanding and it blew up. When charges were dropped on that I think it proved that it probably wasn’t much more than that.

But a mysterious “incident” like that is miles away from holding a gun to your wife’s temple and threatening to kill her.

If these allegations are true, Willie Andrews belongs in jail.

Hell, even if they are exaggerated somehow, the Patriots should still do the right thing and get this guy off the team by any means necessary.

Allowing behavior like this to go unpunished is completely unacceptable in society as a whole. I’m not playing the whole ‘role model’ angle here (which, by the way, was played out sometime in like 1996, so let’s agree to stop writing about it), domestic violence should AUTOMATICALLY carry a one season suspension in any sport for a first offense. The suspension should include mandatory rehabilitation and community service for the abuser. If a second offense occurred, the person should be banned FOR LIFE from professional sports.

That might sound harsh to you, but if the man with the most hits in the history of baseball is banned for life because of gambling, this is a just punishment.

For Manny, I don’t know what the hell has gotten into him. But I really think he needs to reevaluate things. He should probably be given a 10 game suspension by the team with sensitivity counseling and mandatory anger management training. He’s just been acting more erratically than ever before this year with his anger. I hope its not a substance abuse problem (roids or otherwise….but he does seem like the kind of guy who might have played his whole career drunk…maybe that explains everything?).

The worst thing about these types of incidents is that you basically have to go through rooting for your teams and just hoping blindly that this type of shit DOESN’T happen to your guys. Maybe ‘happen’ is the wrong word. Maybe it should be; You just have to hope your teams aren’t full of morons and assholes.

Shitty.
